Where's J? A life ended...

I met J. at a half way house. Man he was getting his act together, we used to talk out on the deck about life. His life more than mine. J. was 52 when I met him and he was telling me life was finally turning around for him.

It started when he was 19. He got involved with drugs and from that time til age 52 he hadn't been out of jail for more than a couple of years at a time. He explained it like this...

"It was like I would come out of a building and turn and see a hole in the road and fall right in it, next time I might try to edge around it but still fall in it. It took me til I was 52 to discover I needed to come out the building and turn the other way."

He was ready to end that stage of his life and move on.

J. said "I've been in every facility in this state and they're all full."

Anyways he moved out of the half way house to move in with a lady cos he felt that things were going good and I lost touch with him. Well last night I was talking to a cat who knew him and asked how he was doing.

He told me he slipped back into drugs and got arrested on firearms and dealing charges and was looking at life in prison when it came to court cos of the seriousness of the charges and his previous record.

Well they buried J. last week. It never came to court. 3 days after his arrest and without warning he had a massive heart attack and died. I felt real sad, I liked talking to him, he was real considered in what he said and spoke quietly in a way that made you listen. After a life of real drama and struggle he seemed ready to move on and then it all changed. He was buried last week.

I don't know how this ties in with the Biblical theme of this blog. Just read it and make up your own mind.

I prayed for J. the night I heard. It's not often that you meet people and they impact you and things they said you can still quote back 2 years later. I hope he finds peace now that he couldn't in this life.

Peace
